Officials say 16 others were rushed to hospital.
Fifteen workers were killed when the mini-bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck.
Cops say the Quantum and 22-seater minibus were rushing workers to the Nkomati Mine between Badplaas and Machadodorp.
“The truck was coming from the direction of Badplaas,” Mpumalanga safety and security spokesman Joseph Mabuza said on the sidelines of the accident.
“And the Quantum and a 22 seater were from the direction of Machadodorp.

“The minibus taxi collided head on with the truck. The 22 seater minibus then hit the Quantum at the back,” Mabuza said.
He said as the department they were really shocked at the number of the fatalities.
“As we are talking the MEC [Pat Ngomane] is on the scene and afterwards we’ll have meetings with the families and assist them with identifying their loved ones. The MEC would like to send condolences,” Mabuza said.
