A call alerting staff at lawyer Mathews Phosa’s law practice about a bomb planted inside the building has been discovered to be nothing but a hoax, the police said on Friday.

“The bomb specialists discovered a suspicious looking parcel inside the building after a thorough search. That parcel turned out to be an electric pressure plate placed in a box,” police spokesman Colonel Motsholi Bhembe said.

Police were called on Friday morning to the Du Toit-Smuts & Mathews Phosa Attorneys building in the Mbombela inner city after a call was made by four unknown people that there was bomb in the building.

Bhembe said the box was thoroughly analysed but what was found was not a bomb.

“At the end, it turned out that the calls were nothing but a hoax,” he said.

He said a charge of bomb threat has been opened and called on the public to assist them with any information regarding the issue.
