The SABC has been without a board after its interim board concluded its work in September 2017 and President Jacob Zuma was supposed to appoint a board soon afterwards but didn’t.
President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday this week appointed the new SABC board approved by parliament.
The President is appointing the new board just on the day the Media Monitoring Africa group was taking him to court over delays in appointing the board.
Zuma was supposed to appoint the board on Monday this week and the group vowed they will take him to court on Tuesday.
But on Tuesday Zuma announced the following as the new members of the board. Their terms expire after five years:
-Ms Febe Potgieter-Gqubule
-Mr Krish Naidoo
-Ms Khanyisile Kweyama
-Mr John Matisonn
-Mr Mathatha Tsedu
-Ms Rachel Kalidass
-Mr Michael Markovitz
-Mr Bongumusa Makhathini
-Mr Victor Rambau
-Mr Dinkwanyane Mohuba
-Mr Jack Phalane
Makhathini was announced as the chairman of the board, Potgieter- Gqubule as his deputy.
“President Zuma wishes all members of the Board all the best during their tenure at the public broadcaster,” his spokesman Bongani Ngqulunga said in a statement.
