The cops said he was caught near Alkmar driving at the suicidal speed.

The police on Monday afternoon arrested the provincial organiser of the EFF in the Mpumalanga province and charged him with reckless driving.

Cyril Chuene was allegedly driving 179km/h in his 5 series Beemer when he got nabbed by traffic cops on Monday afternoon this week.

Cops said they would not release his name until he appears in court but gave a description of the car that he was using and the political party that he is linked to.

Chuene uses a black BMW 523i to drive around in the Mpumalanga province and is one of the most senior leaders of the party in the province together with chairman Collen Sedibe and secretary Alfred Skhosana.

The police said the EFF leader will appear in court soon.

Sedibe said they feel sorry for their comrade and will wait for the decision of the court.

“We feel sorry for him and at the same we’d like to call upon all our members to not find themselves on the wrong side of the law, things like reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding and so on. They must know that speed kills. This message also goes to all South African citizens and to our members, we say they must not succumb to the pressure of meetings and drive at high speed, they must make sure they are on time always,” Sedibe said.
