She stated that the reason she quit the top job was because the ANC decided to redeploy her somewhere else.

The ANC in the Gert Sibande region has welcomed the resignation of Govan Mbeki municipality mayor Flora Maboa-Boltman.

Maboa-Boltman, who got into the seat after the August 2016 local government elections, quit this week.

She said she did so because the ANC wants to redeploy her somewhere else.

In her resignation letter, Maboa-Boltman said she had pledged her commitment and loyalty to the Govan Mbeki Municipality and its people.

She submitted the resignation letter to municipal speaker Nhlakanipho Zuma on Monday this week.

Maboa-Boltman’s resignation comes barely five months after the resignation of Ermelo mayor Bishop Solomon Nkosi, who left the Msukaligwa municipality in a huff in October 2017.

Gert Sibande ANC spokesman Sabelo Sikhakhane said Maboa-Boltman had to be recalled due to “instability” in the Govan Mbeki municipality.

“It followed the decision of the ANC provincial executive committee to do re-deployment in the Govan Mbeki local municipality after considering a number of issues which led to instability in the council,” Sikhakhane said.

“Comrade Flora served the community of Govan Mbeki with distinction using her traceable experience in local government and as a member of SALGA. We want to thank her for serving the people of Govan Mbeki municipality with dignity and respect, we know and understand challenges and difficulties she worked under and we wish her all the best for future deployment,” said Sikhakhane.

Thandi Gxonono will now be the new mayor of the municipality.

“We believe she will also receive the necessary support both from the community and administration of that municipality,” Sikhakhane said.
