His death has left many people shocked.

The Mpumalanga government has made available details of spokesperson Joseph Mabuza’s memorial service.

It said the memorial service will be held this coming Thursday at the Communio Church next to Ilanga Mall in Mbombela.

Acting spokesman Moeti Mmusi said details regarding Mabuza’s funeral service will also be communicated.

Mabuza, described as a very humble person by colleagues and others who knew him, died Sunday afternoon (23 Dec) on the N4 towards Mozambique just before the Nkomazi toll gate.

He was the spokesperson to Mpumalanga safety and security MEC Pat Ngomane.

Premier Refilwe Mtshweni said news of Mabuza’s death was saddening.

She said the death was a huge blow to the provincial government, “as Mr Mabuza was the champion of road safety in the province”.

“Let me pass my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Mabuza,” she said.

Mabuza, travelling in a motorbike, died when a bakkie allegedly made a U-turn on the highway, killing him.

A manhunt for the driver of the bakkie has been launched by the cops.

“I have no doubt that as a provincial government, we have lost a passionate fellow colleague who was tremendously dedicated and patriotic about road safety in our province.

“Death has robbed us as a provincial government a good communicator. On behalf of the provincial government, let me pass my deepest and sincere condolences to Mabuza’s family, friends and colleagues in the entire administration,” said Mtshweni.

If you have information on the whereabouts of the bakkie’s driver call the cops on 072 196 8225 or 08600 10111.
