Police say the advert is circulating on social media.

The public has been asked not to entertain a bogus police advert purporting to be recruiting trainees to the service.

The advert says there is currently an intake for entry level Constables and that interested individuals should go to their nearest police stations to apply.

Police spokesman Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the advert is “false, fake and its origins are unknown”.

Hlathi said the last time they put out adverts for trainees was May 2018.

Mpumalanga police boss Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma condemns the scam.

“The SAPS has not circulated any advert recently, at least not in this province,” Zuma said.

“Members of the community must be extremely cautious of this and other similar fake information that is posted on social media from time to time. In most cases, these adverts require people to make cash deposits,” the commander said.

He said in most cases the victims of this scam are directed to make use of cardless services to deposit the money and the public should be aware.

He said the police service never requires money from applicants.
