The party says his now redeployed rival Thambi Kubheka should also answer.
The DA in Mpumalanga is calling for a thorough probe into allegations of corruption against now redeployed JS Moroka municipal mayor Thulare Madileng launched.
The party’s Trudie Grove-Morgan said political infighting in the JS Moroka sub-region has crippled the normal functioning of the municipality.
Grove-Morgan told 013NEWS that Madileng first suspended Kubheka as municipal manager, accusing him of being a corrupt manager. Counter-claims of corruption were also levelled against Madileng by Kubheka.
She said both were making claims about “the one being more corrupt than the other”.
“You can see its politics because the ANC is divided in that municipality. The mayor has his own group and the manager his own. But still you can’t just accuse someone of corruption without solid proof and suspend them. Therefore there must be investigations and these investigations should take place once the municipality has been placed under administration.
She said Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane’s intervention in the matter is important. The Premier will have to get co-operative governance MEC Mandla Msibi to have JS Moroka our under administration “to allow for fair investigations by the provincial government”.
“Our biggest worry is that things at the municipality are on a standstill,” she said.
Last week the ANC announced they had decided to redeploy both Kubheka and Madileng. The party will now put another mayor and do the process of installing stability at the municipality.
