The ANC in the region said a disciplinary hearing resolved to fire all of them.

15 ward councillors belonging to the JS Moroka municipality in Siyabuswa have been fired for the role they played when they voted for the removal of mayor Thulare Madileng…

The councillors were aligned to Madileng’s rival municipal manager Thami Kubheka and participated in the toppling of Madileng during a council sitting October 2019.

ANC spokesman Sello Matshoga said they have stripped the 15 councillors of their seats after the findings of a disciplinary hearing that was instituted against them.

The motion to remove Madileng had been brought by the EFF. Matshoga said the council meeting was illegal and they had to fire the councillors for collaborating with an opposition party.

But Madileng soon returned to the throne of the municipality when an out-of-court agreement was reached.

The disciplinary committee found that the councillors signed the motion “and actively participated in the council meeting to remove the mayor deployed by the ANC” – collaborating with the EFF, DA, F4SD, APC and AIC.

Matshoga said the actions of the officials have contributed immensely to the destabilisation of the municipality.

“We would once again like to apologise to all residents in the municipal area, and wish to assure them that things will soon normalise and the municipality continue delivering services to the community at large,” he said.
