Incidents of disruptions were reported while the BGM was underway.
A BGM in one of Mpumalanga’s senior ANC comrades has nominated acting chairman Mandla Ndlovu for the position of chair when a congress is held soon.
Mbombela’s ward 37 branch of ANC leader Peter Nyoni over the weekend opted for Ndlovu for the provincial chairpersonship and Gert Sibande ANC chairman Muzi Chirwa for the post of provincial secretary.
The branch general meeting, which also elected branch leader Amos Mdaka as branch chairman and nominated Nkangala leader Speedy Mashilo to become provincial deputy chairman, was held inside the hall of the Ntsikazi stadium Sunday 8 March 2020.
Incidents of disruptions were reported at Nyoni’s ward 37. A group of comrades wanted to have the meeting stopped to question a lobby group that was canvassing for Nyoni to be a delegate to the conference.
Mdaka said they condemn the incident “where a group of comrades from outsiders came to try cause disruption at the meeting of the ANC and the wielding of dangerous weapons at Comrade Peter Nyoni for the intention of harming him”.
While comrades nominated for acting secretary Lindiwe Ntshalintshali to retain her post of deputy secretary and co-operative governance MEC Mandla Msibi as treasurer, they didn’t include Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane even as an additional member of the upcoming PEC.
Instead they added Desmond Moela and MKMVA leader Taylor Nsimbini.
The branches in Mpumalanga are currently holding BGMs to nominate leaders who should serve in the 13th provincial leadership.
Nyoni confirmed he “narrowly escaped” a group of comrades who had been given alcohol and sent to come disrupt the meeting.
He said he would not lay any charge because “as leaders we do come across such situations”.
Nyoni was nominated as the additional member of the PEC, also as a delegate to both the upcoming eHlanzeni regional and Mpumalanga provincial conferences.
