The company says they are committed to lending a helping hand during the outbreak.
Coal giant Exxaro Resources has donated an amount of R20 million to help Mpumalanga and Limpopo fight the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The money is donated to the Solidarity Fund.
CEO Mxolisi Mgoja said a further R3.45 million from Exxaro Foundation is the one that will be used to specifically assist the provincial governments of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
“We are committed to playing our part to ensure the country’s ability to effectively fight COVID-19,” Mgojo said.
He said the Solidarity Fund “is a powerful example of how South Africans can stand together in times of crisis”.

The Solidarity Fund was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in March 2020 when 5-week lockdown was imposed by his government.
The Fund has received contributions from more than 1,000 businesses and tens of thousands of South Africans. It had raised more than R2.6 billion last week and had targeted total funds of R4 billion, according to reports.
Mgojo said Exxaro had take crucial steps to ensure minimisation of the risk of spreading the virus to workers.
He said the use of a “self-screening questionnaire” daily is one of the measures being currently employed by his company.

Mgojo also said suspected cases are referred for testing at approved labs. “We are also investigating the development of a private testing capacity at our selected operations,” he said.
“Never before has there been a more pressing need for all South Africans to stand together and each do our part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
