Beneficiaries will now be redirected to Boxer, Pick n Pay, ShopRite, Checkers or USave.
The South African Post Office has announced it plans to stop paying out the R350 grant that it gives on behalf of SASSA at all of their branches nationwide.
Beneficiaries will now be redirected to Boxer, Pick n Pay, ShopRite, Checkers or USave.
Post Office says they will be allowing a last round of payments in May 2022.
“The new round of applications for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant has opened,” it said in a statement.
It said the application app now includes an option where beneficiaries can receive their grant from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or USave merchant.
“If you have already reapplied for your SRD grant, you can still select the option to collect your grant from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or USave. Log on to srd.sassa.gov.za and respond to the security SMS you receive on your phone. You can then include merchants in your application and submit the updated application,” it said.
Meanwhile, SASSA has released the dates for Post Office payments, which ends on 31 May.
It hasn’t said what will happen to those who use bank accounts whose applications are still not responded to.
“We are still busy with the verification process,” SASSA said.
Post Office said only those who receive old age, disability and child grants can continue to collect the money at any Post Office branch.
The department of social development said 31% of the South Africans rely on social grants.
