The SACP in the Gert Sibande region of Mpumalanga has been robbed of two district executive committee members following the death of parliamentarian Nokhaya Mnisi and Nomthandazo Karube.
The ANC says this is part of maintaining unity.
Bohlabela ANC chairman Gillion Mashego will retain his post as the leader of the ANC in the region.
013NEWS was told by the secretary of the region, Follas Sibuyi, who said that’s what the ANC resolved should happen.
“We have received our branch audit results and branches now have began the process of BGMs and nominations,” Sibuyi said on Wednesday afternoon.
He said branches will decide whether the entire Bohlabela top 5 returns as it is “but we’re hoping so”.
“But with comrade Gillion it’s for sure he is returning,” he said.
All four regions in Mpumalanga – Hlanzeni, Gert Sibande, Nkangala and Bohlabela – are expected to return key leaders to positions when they convene their congresses in May 2017 as part of provincial leader David Mabuza’s ‘quest’ for unity.
Mashego will be returning to power for the third time.
The Bohlabela region is led by him, Mashego as chairman and Sibuyi as secretary.
Steve Maunye is the region’s deputy chairman while Makhosazana Masilela is deputy secretary and treasurer Sidney Sibuyi.
