Mishack Mthombeni emerges unopposed in community meeting called by ANC to replace ‘unpopular’ Delmas councillor

A community meeting determining who will be the ward councillor of Delmas’ ward 6 has chosen Mishack Mthombeni again.

Mthombeni will now proceed to register at the IEC as Delpark and Malita ward councillor candidate.

The ANC confirmed that Mthombeni will now be the face of the party in the upcoming by-elections in the area.

A ward councillor’s post was declared vacant by the Independent Electoral Commission in the Victor Khanye sub-region following the forced resignation of ward councillor Maria Sepenyane.

Sepenyane had been asked to quit by the ANC in the Nkangala region after it was discovered the selection process that led to her being a ward councillor candidate was manipulated by senior regional leaders.

The date of 9 November 2016 has been announced as the date of by-elections in the area.

ANC Regional spokesman Sello Matshoga said the “process” that elected Mthombeni as ward councillor candidate went “smooth” on Sunday.

“Community members came and spoke. That was a final leg and comrade Mishack is now a candidate of the ANC,” said Matshoga.
