The Democratic Alliance is growing after getting 33% in Delmas by-elections, a senior leader has said.

DA provincial chairwoman Jane Sithole said the DA’s getting 33% from the 32%” it received in the 3 August 2016 local government elections were signs that as a party they were growing.

“We are very happy, we’ve grown and I always say South Africa comes from a very painful past, the issue of racism and for people not to trust the DA it really put a lot of pressure on us.

“So that is why even if we get 2, 3, 10 extra votes for us it means a lot as it indicates our gradual growth,” she said.

She thanked the people of both Malita and Delpark for voting for the DA and said they had higher hopes that one day the ward would belong to them.

“We may not have won on the 3rd of August in many municipalities but the fact that we have grown in such proportions it makes us have hope for the future, ” Sithole said.
