Mpumalanga’s Delmas ward 1 councillor Jabu ‘Mbazo’ Msiza has died at 37.

The speaker of the Victor Khanye municipality said Mbazo died a week ago.

“The office of the speaker has learnt of the untimely death of one of the pioneers of the council,” Victor Khanye municipality speaker Khaya Segone said in a statement.

“In this mournful hour I ask you to pass on my words of sympathy and support to all members of the Msiza family,” Segona said.

Mbazo wasward leader of the ANC and was elected into the Victor Khanye local municipality after the ANC won the ward on 3 August 2016.

Sources say Mbazo died of a ‘serious illness’, having been in and out of hospital in past months.

ANC regional spokesman in the Nkangala region, Sello Matshoga, said Mbazo was a “freedom fighter”.

“He was a tireless political activist, who remained engaged in struggle even until the end of his life,” Matshoga said.

“The ANC will forever treasure the contribution made by comrade Jabu in the struggle for liberation and the building of our democracy.

“We send our condolences to his family, loved ones and comrades,” he said.
