Tourism minister Tokozile Xasa will be handing over the awards at a ceremony at the Sandton convention centre in October 2017.
The department of tourism has announced the provincial winners of the Lilizela awards, with the Matumi golf estate scooping the best accommodation awards.
The names of the winners were announced at the Casambo lodge in Mbombela a week ago (8 Sep).
The Blue Jay Lodge in Hazyview as well as the La Picasso Guesthouse in Ermelo were also announced as winners of the Lilizela awards.
The Matumi golf estate made news early this year after the ANCYL, EFF and SANCO marched and submitted memorandums at its gates to demand an end to racism following the attack of a black golfer by four white men who were members of the golf estate.

Xasa congratulated the finalists and winners.
“We would like to congratulate all the Mpumalanga Provincial finalists and winners.
“Each year, we are encouraged by the quality of products and services that enter the Lilizela Tourism Awards. These awards are our way of recognising our dedicated travel industry for their hard work in setting the bar high and helping to make South Africa such a highly regarded must-visit destination, for local and international tourists alike.
“We would also like to thank all those tourism and hospitality businesses that took the time to enter the Lilizela Tourism Awards, and particularly to our provincial partners for ensuring that a cross-section of South Africa’s diverse experiences is represented,” Xasa said.
