Captain Magonseni Nkosi says they will not reveal the names of the bodyguards due to the “sensitivity of the matter”.
The police in Mbalenhle, Secunda are investigating a case of murder against a 46-year-old bodyguard after him and fellow colleague shot each other this week.
“We are investigating a murder case against the 46-year-old bodyguard,” Captain Magonseni Nkosi said.
“We want to know what led to the shooting,” he said.
He said the 46-year-old bodyguard is still lying in hospital and he will “account” for the murder.
The two are believed to have fought and unleashed bullets on each other at their flat in Mbalenhle late on Monday.

Police say an altercation must have led to the fight.
One of them was shot in the buttocks and police say multiple shots were fired during a struggle for one of the firearms.
“Once we know the cause, we will then know what we are investigating,” Nkosi said.
The men were the bodyguards of Govan Mbeki municipal accounts chairman Cyril Gwiji.
Municipal council speaker Nhlakanipho Zuma told News24 this week that they were hired to protect Gwiji because of “threats”.
“The bodyguards were hired because of threats against the councillor… and the municipality having had previous incidents and threats,” he said.
