Their matter was postponed to 9 November 2017.
George and Maria Mabaso were supposed to receive R1.6 million but by error they got R10.6 million for a tender they had with the JS Moroka local municipality and now officials to recover it.
The couple made a brief appearance at the Mdutjana Magistrates Court in Siyabuswa.
The Hawks say the couple were overpaid and should return the money back to the municipal coffers as they knew of the overpayment.
Captain Dineo Sekgotodi of the Hawks said Maria and George built a water reservoir for the municipality and got paid the R10.6 million last month.

“Our investigation revealed that they later transferred the money into their personal bank account and used it to buy equipment for their business.
“Both the accused are the directors of their construction company,” she said.
They will return in court on 9 November 2017.
