
He served as the provincial deputy chairman of the ANC between 2008 and 2012, deputising D.D Mabuza during his first term.
A campaign to have Charles Makola as DD Mabuza’s successor was launched at the Protea Hotel on Friday.
He spoke to supporters who came to fill the boardroom of the hotel in the eMalahleni area.
He said people of eMalahleni should realise that they are rich in terms of natural resources, being the generators of electricity but have benefited nothing from it.
He said he was not ‘regionalist’ in this view but employing people from outside of eMalahleni is not making sense.
“How do you say one is geographic or regionalist like that while you employ an outsider with the same skill as the unemployed local person?” Makola asked.
