It was a tip-off from concerned people that put the officers in trouble.

Six Gauteng cops were arrested this week by their Mpumalanga counterparts over allegations of taking bribes during a lockdown roadblock.

The cops were arrested Saturday 18 April 2020, national spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said.

The members are from Brooklyn and Silverton police stations in Tshwane.

They had been sent to go conduct a roadblock on the R104 eastbound between Bronkhorstspruit and eMalahleni from 6 in the morning.

“Later the same day, the Mpumalanga provincial anti-corruption unit received information that the members at the roadblock had demanded money from people passing through the roadblock,” Naidoo said.

He said the Mpumalanga unit followed on the information, nabbing the six police officers.

They are charged with corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
