He said he doesn’t have a problem serving anywhere the ANC asks him to, as he has always been doing all these years.
Warring ANC camps in Gert Sibande region are currently pushing forward their favoured candidates to contest when branches finally convene BGMs and an elective conference is announced.
The race looks set to be between REC member Walter Mngomezulu and deputy chairman Vusi ‘Sgemegeme’ Motha who are both gunning for the regional chairperson position.
Mngomezulu is backed by regional chairman Muzi Chirwa and provincial acting chair Mandla Ndlovu while Sgemegeme has the support of Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane and Ermelo-based PEC member Sibusiso ‘The Great’ Sgudla.
Last month Chirwa’s camp released its full slate, announcing Mngomezulu as their preferred candidate for the position of chair, REC member Muzi Manyathi as deputy chair and deputy secretary Lindi Masina as secretary.
Former ANCYL leader Trevor Nkosi is needed as deputy secretary in the slate while REC member Aubrey Maboea is the preferred regional treasurer.

The Sgemegeme camp is going to support former ANCYL regional chair Khulani Nhlabathi as the new ANC regional secretary and could also bring Abel ‘Dantshi’ Nkosi as deputy chairman.
Also former regional ANCYL leaders Zakes Masilela and Makhosi Hadebe could be brought by the Sgemegeme camp to come form part of its top 5.
Last week Mngomezulu said he would definitely contest if branches select his name.
He said he didn’t have a problem about other contestants in the opposing slate because “I know that the immediate mission of all of us is to renew the ANC and make sure that it cleanses itself”.
Mngomezulu began serving as an ANC REC member in 2009, having served in the ANCYL since 1997.
He was elected as REC member during a conference that elected Vusi Shongwe as the chair of the region and Chirwa as the secretary.
