He was a key figure in the politics of the province.
Mpumalanga legislature deputy speaker James “JJ” Skhosana is no more, chief whip Fidel Mlombo has said in a statement Tuesday night 15 June 2021.
Mlombo said the provincial legislature caucus wished to send deepest condolences to Skhosana’s family and the ANC’s alliance partners.
Skhosana was SANCO’s provincial chairman and the newly appointed legislature deputy speaker.
Sources said Skhosana tested positive for Covid-19 a week ago and that is probably the cause of his death.
“We heard that he tested positive for Covid-19 but we are not sure what really killed him as we are trying to find more details,” one of the sources in the provincial government said when speaking to the 013News reporter Tuesday.
Legislature spokeswoman ZamaGambu Memela-Gamede said legislature speaker Makhosazane Masilela reacted with shock and disbelief at the passing of her deputy.
“The speaker has been informed of the passing of the deputy speaker, right now she only expressed shock at the news but will be visiting the family tomorrow. We will released a statement once we have received all the information,” Memela-Gamede said
Mlombo’s statement didn’t reveal the cause of death but said they are yet to meet his family to get more details.
They will then communicate, he said.
“The ANC caucus is saddened and shocked at the departure of one of our astute members whose integrity, dedication and leadership role in the legislature was extra ordinary,” Mlambo said.
Skhosana previously served as the chief whip before he became the deputy speaker.
