Mswati wants Nkangala ‘status quo’ to remain ahead of congress

The regional ANCYL leader says they are ‘fine’ with current Nkangala leadership.

Nkangala ANCYL chairman Mduduzi ‘Mswati’ Nkosi has expressed a view that suggests they want the current regional leadership of the Nkangala ANC to come back unchanged from congress.

Mswati said this was in line with provincial leader David Mabuza’s “quest” for unity across regions.

“As ANCYL we have a mandate for all 6 sub-regions, young people have spoken and are agreeing with one voice to say let the sitting leadership be given all necessary support,” Mswati said.

Mswati was speaking during an interview with 013NEWS on Monday mid-day following the mother-body’s special regional general council on Saturday morning (25 Mar) that dealt with unity.

Mswati said as the regional league they have the mandate to assist the current regional leadership to “unite everyone, even those who differ with them”.

“In short, the REC collective led by the regional chair is doing all they can and we’re fine with them,” he said.

He said they wanted the top 5 to remain as it is but “in additional we have interests that must include young people who are immediate graduates and former ANCYL leaders”.

Mswati said they haven’t yet discussed names to be included as additional members of the regional mother-body and will do so once branch audit results have been received.

He said they wanted young people from across branches to come serve in the REC of the ANC and not only them who are currently there “as we must not be seen as serving ourselves”.

“But this is a democratic organisation – we so wish that those who differ can put their differences aside for the sake of the ANC.

“But differences in terms of contestation must not be viewed as division, no, no as young people we’re open to debates,” he said.

The Nkangala ANC is led by Speedy Mashilo as chairman, deputised by Thomas Ngwenya, Leah Khoza as secretary, deputised by Thomas Mabena as well as treasurer Moko Tlou.

Mswati also expects to be re-elected for a second term when the ANCYL also meets for its own regional congress but a faction unhappy with his leadership wants him to be replaced by his deputy and spokesman Tsekiso Machike.

Both Mswati and provincial league treasurer Sam ‘Obama’ Masango are said to be not seeing eye to eye and Obama is believed to be part of the faction that is opposed to Mswati coming to power again.
