With live entertainment, it was a buzzing evening and for the newly crowned Miss Mpumalanga, Geraldine Williams, it was a night she will never forget.
Geraldine was amongst the 12 beautiful hopefuls who competed for the chance to be the Miss Mpumalanga 2017 at the Mbombela stadium on Saturday evening.
The audience was treated to an entertaining and nerve wrecking evening as the number of contestants dwindled down before the two runner- ups – Lindokuhle and Lethokuhle – and finally when this year’s Miss Mpumalanga was announced.
After a rough round of questions from the judges that ranged from women empowerment, education and youth development, 21 year-old Geraldine Williams from Volksrust walked away with the coveted title.
Nineteen year-old Lethokuhle from Clau Clau was crowned as the first princess while 21 year-old Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi from KaNyamazane was crowned the second princess.
There were also two awards for Miss Photogenic and Miss Personality.
Miss Photogenic went to Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi from KaNyamazane while Miss Personality went to 19 year-old Lungile Mlangeni from Elukwatini.
The 12 finalists were all oozing with glitz and glamour during the crowning ceremony.
The show was opened by different fashion designers who showcased their clothes.
The finalists paraded in swimwear, evening wear, and casual wear.
Mafikizolo took the crowd down memory lane with their old hits while Swaziland music sensation, Sands performed one of his hit tracks, Tigi.
Even though some of the twelve finalists didn’t make it to the top 5, they walked away with R20,000 cash prize, driver’s license vouchers, tablets and many more, while Miss Mpumalanga won an educational bursary, shopping vouchers, holiday vouchers, brand new car, R120 000 cash prize and many more.
The event was graced by the current Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, Mpumalanga MEC for economic development, Eric Kholwane, and the CEOs of Mpumalanga Gambling Board and MEGA.
