Visitors can look forward to visiting any of the parks managed by the South African National Parks across the country when the official SANParks Week is launched.
Environmental affairs minister Edna Molewa will officially launch the week on 22 September at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park in Free State.
The South African National Parks or simply ‘SANParks’, accounts to Molewa’s department of environmental affairs and manages 20 national parks across South Africa.
Both Mpumalanga’s Kruger National Park and Western Cape’s Table Mountain are the most visited of all the 20 parks managed by SANParks.
SANParks say since 2006 when the SANParks Week began, they have seen an influx of 220 000 people.
“The concept of National Parks Week was established in a bid to cultivate a sense of pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage, protected by the National Parks system.
“After the official opening, people can start making their way to a national park of their choice including Mapungubwe, Marakele and Kruger in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces,” it said.
“Mapungubwe and Marakele will extend the week to Sunday, 24th September, while Kruger will allow free visits only until Friday, 22 September,” SANParks said.
