It is the first television show to hit the 10 million viewers mark in South African television history.
South African TV soap Uzalo now has 10 million viewers.
Aired on SABC 1 at 20h30 weekdays, the soapie is the first ever soapie to reach the 10 million mark in South African history.
The SABC broke the news this week of how Uzalo “has broke all SA TV records with 10.2 million viewers”.
Communication minister Nomvula Mokonyane congratulated the soapie “for setting the bar high by clocking a never-been-done-before 10 million viewers mark in South African television history”.
“We are hopeful that with our migration from analogue to digital, younger, black producers will come forth to exploit the opportunities that will be presented by the new multi-channel environment,” the minister said.
Uzalo was launched three years ago and has overtaken other soapies in being the most watched TV story.
Mokonyane said this was proof that where there was hard work and dedication, “there is a success”.
“This should be an example to other aspiring producers,” she said
