GS general council: Muzi Chirwa, Audrey Maleka to retain posts
DOING A GOOD JOB: That's according to Gert Sibande special general council which took place on Sat. PICTURE BY Highvelder.

The party in the region says this is because the two are doing ‘very well’.

Gert Sibande ANC chairman Muzi Chirwa and secretary Audrey Maleka will retain their posts, the party said in a statement.

Maleka’s office issued the statement on Sunday night (25 Mar) following a special regional general council on Saturday morning that resolved the status quo should remain.

Lindi Masina, Vusi Motha and Khosi Kota may also retain their posts as deputy secretary, deputy chairman and treasurer respectively.

“The special regional general council resolved that comrade Muzi Chirwa and comrade Audrey Maleka are doing very well and must continue to lead after the regional conference,” Maleka said in the statement.

Maleka said they also resolved to support provincial leader David Mabuza’s national office bid – where he is expected to emerge as the ANC’s deputy president in December 2017.

“Therefore, we request all members to cooperate, every member is expected to do right things wherever they are, regardless the comrade is being watched or not.

“Let us all close the ranks,” she said.

“Unity unity unity must be the order on daily basis,” Maleka added.

ANC regions across the province are expected to retain key leaders in the up coming regional congresses in a campaign call ‘maintaining the status quo’.

Provincial leader David Mabuza will use this strategy to consolidate his power base in order to take a ‘united and solid province’  to the national conference where he is expected to emerge as the deputy president on slate that would see Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma become the country’s first woman president.

Maleka is also the regional executive member of the ANCWL and Chirwa is the region’s mayor and chairman of the South African Local Government Association since late last year.

The regional conference will take place on 13 and 14 May 2017.
