Phola mom sought after dumping baby in sewage pipes

The innocent child was declared dead by paramedics.


Mpumalanga police in the eMalahleni area of Phola are asking the public to assist them find the mother of a new-born baby who was mercilessly murdered a week ago.

The cops said the child was burned before being dumped in a sewage pipe soon after birth on 25 January 2018.

He was discovered by a municipal worker who alerted cops on the Thursday morning last week.

“A case of concealment of birth has been opened at Phola police station,” Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe said on Monday this week.

“The umbilical cord was still intact when he was found,” Bhembe said. “Paramedics declared the baby dead at the scene,” he said.

“Currently the mother remains unknown, hence the appeal by the police for assistance from members of the community in identifying the mother,” he added.
