With the number of single people on the rise in South Africa, a new group believes an event for single people is the way.

A group of young people from the eMalahleni area is planning to have an event in order for single people to gather and enjoy together.

Called “1st Annual Singles Camp”, the group plans to host it just three days after Valentine’s Day.

“The camp is only one night (17-18 Feb),” one of the organisers, Ntokozo Mashifane, told the 013NEWS reporter this week.

“We are expecting to have a meet and mingle. This event is a well-thought and fun-filled event that gives young people an opportunity to explore nature, meet different personalities, play interesting games and possibly meet their Mr and or Mrs Right,” she said when asked what exactly the event is all about.

“Its about creating an environment which allows singles to meet, interact and share their single experiences and possibly find ‘the one’,” the 24-year-old Ntokozo said on Friday morning this week.

Recent surveys have shown that more and more people are actually unmarried in South Africa but this is attributed to the low standard of living amongst blacks due to the high unemployment rate.

Ntokozo said they understand a lot of people are single and Valentine’s Day doesnt really matter to them.

Asked what will happen at the gathering of the single people, she said: “Upon arrival, we will be having a bushveld braai and some adult games around the bonfire.

“The singles will have a morning hike as well finish off our weekend with farm-style breakfast and poolside relaxing,” she said.

She said the event will have people between the age of 21 and 40.

“Not only will it be fun but it will give them an opportunity to meet other single people outside the daily work routine that we all get stuck into,” she said.
