The number of young people who take Nyaope in the area is on a shocking rise.
A non-profit organisation has decided to embark on a campaign called #NyaopeMustFall against the scourge of substance abuse in the eMalahleni area.
Called eMalahleni Youth Against Substance Abuse or EYASA, the organisation will stage what they say will be a “Big Walk Event” and are inviting the community to come join.
The organisation was established in 2012 and was registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission in 2015 as a non-profit organisation aimed at fighting the scourge of drug abuse.
“It was registered to steer young people towards clean lifestyle and positive moral values as we all know the high statics scourge of Nyaope and alcohol abuse amongst our youth is very high in eMalahleni,” it said in a statement this week.
“We are trying our best to steer away our peers from drugs and substance abuse with this #NyaopeMustFall awareness event and we will have speakers from different organizations,” secretary Precious Masuku said.
The walk is going to begin at the Zacheus Malaza Secondary School to the KG Mall in Kwa-Guqa.
“The purpose of this walk is to bring users and non-users, parents and the community at large to provide them with information related to the social challenge we are faced with as society,” she said.
