A charge of fraud has now been added.
A man charged with human trafficking this week surprised the eMalahleni Magistrates Court with a fake asylum seeker’s documents, adding more troubles to his woes.
Ani Chukwuemeka was arrested on 6 June 2019 and charged with human trafficking.
This follows the escape of a 30-year-old woman, allegedly in Chukwuemeka’s hands.
The woman, who was promised a job by her friend from Lesotho, arrived in the eMalahleni area on 29 May 2019.
She was allegedly picked up at the taxi rank by the suspect on her arrival, taken to a house where she was welcomed by other girls.
Here, she was going to be a sex worker – allegedly employed and to be exploited by Chukwuemeka.
The woman told cops that she was kept against her will, forced into drugs, raped multiple times and trained by the other girls before she was released to the street to pose as a prostitute since her arrival.
But when Chukwuemeka appeared at the eMalahleni Magistrates Court on the Tuesday morning of 18 June 2019 to apply for bail he produced fake asylum seeker’s documents.
Bail has now been denied. He is back in court on 5 July 2019.
