The branches want the man to become the secretary general when a national congress is held on 16 December 2018.
Branches aligned with ANCYL contender Ndumiso Mokako in the Nkangala region of Mpumalanga are crying foul at what they say is sabotage by the upper structure after no deployee showed up at their BGMs.
They have now written a letter to both the PEC and NEC asking them to “attend” to their “frustrations” urgently.
013NEWS understands that since last week the regional executive committee of the Nkangala ANCYL snubbed atleast 7 BGMS – six in JS Moroka and one in Steve Tshwete.
The branches must convene what is known as Branch Annual General Meetings in order to elect new branch leaders before nominating delegates and favoured candidates ahead of an elective conference.
JS Moroka sub-regional ward 18 secretary William Mokwele said they were ready as a branch to convene a BAGM and then informed acting regional secretary Cathy Mkhuma about the date.
“In fact the whole REC was aware of the date of our BAGM but no deployee came and no communication was made on the reason why the deployee did not come to launch us,” Mokwele told the 013NEWS reporter over the phone.
He said they can’t launch themselves.
“And to our surprise the REC did come to launch ward 4 and they are avoiding us. Something is wrong here,” Mokwele said Thursday this week.
He said their BAGM date was Wednesday (7 Nov) and members had filled the hall in the evening waiting for a deployee from the region but “dololo”.
Mokwele said his branch took a “resolution” to support Mokako for the position of secretary general and Trevor Nkosi to be provincial chairman.
He said other branches that were snubbed by the REC in the JS Moroka sub-region is ward 6, 7, 15, 17, 18 and 23 and were “currently frustrated”.
Also ward 27 in Steve Tshwete – another Mokako aligned branch – was snubbed by an REC deployee when it tried to convene a BAGM Thursday this week.
The branches have until next week Thursday (15 Nov) to convene BGMs and afterwards no branch will be allowed to convene anything to do with congress. Now the comrades believe they are being “sabotaged” by the REC because of their favoured candidates.
The Mpumalanga ANCYL conference will be held on 7 December while the national one on 16 December 2018.
The Nkangala REC has long announced they would support Reggie Nkabinde to be President and Pholoso Mbatsane to be secretary general.

The Nkabinde camp in the Nkangala region also wants their suspended secretary Thabang Mathebula to be the provincial chair on a slate that wants Mbatsane to retain his post as the current provincial secretary in order to be elected to national office in Nasrec Expo Centre on 16 December 2018.
But this is setting the Nkabinde group against the Mokako one which wants Nkosi as the provincial leader, Bheki Sithole as his secretary and KZN secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo as President.
In their letter to the PEC and NEC, the ward 18 JS Moroka branch says they “believe strongly there is a tendency of manipulation of organisational processes by some members of the REC”.
“We are calling upon the Mpumalanga ANCYL PEC, NEC and NTT to attend to our frustrations. We hope that our frustrations will be attended to as a matter of urgency,” they write in their letter.
Regional spokesman Banele ‘Masheleni’ Nkosi said the reason they did not come to the JS Moroka branches is because they never sent a date of their readiness to Mkhumba but to the provincial secretary’s office, Mbatsane.
“I spoke to comrade Cathy [acting secretary] and she said that the Steve Tshwete branch doesn’t have membership because their forms were not banked. Then the JS Moroka branches she said they submitted their dates to the office of the provincial secretary and not to her and I’m still going to phone these branches and verify with them whether they did submit their dates to comrade Cathy or what,” said Masheleni.
