Klarinet mom breaks down and cries in court

She had just been discharged from hospital following her admission after falling ill.

The Klarinet mom who has been charged with the planned murder of her four children broke down and cried in court.

The 24-year-old Leshme Maditla appeared at the eMalahleni Magistrates Court Monday morning (7 Jan) to face the charges but could not stand the journalists taking photos of her while sitting in the accused box.

Taking one look at the group of journalists who were shooting her, Maditla broke down and cried.

Her matter was postponed to 14 January 2019.

She is accused of feeding poison to her four kids – two girls aged 8 and 4 and two boys aged 7 years and 11 months.

She was arrested on 30 December 2018 after the decomposed bodies of the kids were found in her rented room in Klarinet and decided to hand herself over to Vosman cops.

The court postponed the matter in order to allow Maditla to appoint a lawyer.

Maditla wore blue jeans and a white top with her hair neatly tied back. She stood in the witness box facing down until the magistrate asked her to look up. She spoke in a soft voice requesting that she be afforded a legal aid lawyer.

It was the second time Maditla appeared before the court. On 2 January 2019, she appeared in absentia as she was still in hospital.

The cops said she just fell ill on 30 December 2018 shortly after being taken into custody and police decided to take her to hospital, causing her to appear in court in absentia.

No one from Maditla’s family was seen present in court today.

She will return on 14 January to apply for bail.
