The matter relates to the ‘allocation of funds’ which do not reflect “clearly” how they were used, an official said.
Mpumalanga education head Mahlasedi Mhlabane has reportedly been suspended over corruption allegations.
Mhlabane was suspended a weekend ago while Premier Refilwe Mtshweni was in Russia, according to New Era.
Mtshweni’s spokesman Zibonele Mncwango confirmed they have suspended the head of department and was over the “allocation of funds which upon enquiry it was not clear how they had been utilised”.
Mncwango said these were allegations and as “investigations continue we will then have much to say later”.
Sources that the New Era spoke to said that Mhlabane’s suspension was connected with the multi-million rand feeding scheme.
Mncwango said they will say much once investigations have showed how exactly these ‘funds’ were used.
Meanwhile, the department is being taken to court by contractors who accuse the department of ending their contracts before time.
They all sue the Mpumalanga department of education an amount of R100 million for cutting them out “all of a sudden”.
They were appointed to supply the school feeding scheme.
