eMalahleni mayor Linah Malatjie has called on the business community to come out in more numbers in order to partner with government and change the lives of others.
Malatjie recently donated furniture to various poor households across the eMalahleni area and her office has since been inundated with calls from distressed poor families.
The furniture was donated by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Africa.
“We need more companies to partner with the municipality to change the lives of poor communities,” the mayor said.
“It is not only about donating food parcels but there is a huge need for shelter, furniture, clothes and other basic human necessities,” she said.
Since her appointment as the mayor last year, Malatjie has been on a sustained period of unrestrained giving to the disenfranchised.
She said the municipality cannot on its own lessen the daily hardship and suffering of thousands of unemployed people, “child-headed families and the disabled, who ordinarily cannot fend for themselves.”
“That is one of the reasons that I commend Hitachi for assisting the municipality with furniture which we took to families who literally had nothing in their houses,” said Malatjie.
Hitachi has committed to continue partnering with the eMalahleni municipality and to donate furniture to the needy, depending on the availability of furniture.
