The construction of the hospital is yet to begin.
The Mpumalanga government is planning to name a yet to be built hospital after the late eMalahleni mayor Linah Malatjie.
This was announced by Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane during her State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Friday 25 February 2022.
The hospital will be built in the eMalahleni area and construction could begin next year, the Premier said.

Malatjie died with her husband Sepetlela when the car they were travelling in collided with a Ford Ranger between KwaMhlanga and eMalahleni on the Sunday night of 3 January 2022.
She had been re-elected as mayor during the November 2021 local government elections and also served on the leadership of Cosatu, the ANC and ANC Women’s League.
Mtshweni-Tsipane said the Linah Malatjie Tertiary Hospital will be in honour of her “legacy”.
“Planning for the Linah Malatjie Tertiary Hospital is progressing well and we expect construction to start in the 2022/2023 financial year,” the Premier said.
The hospital was promised in 2018 by Mtshweni-Tsipane and health MEC Sasekani Manzini, seeing the growing population of Witbank that relies on the Witbank General Hospital – which itself is in fact a referral hospital, meaning Witbank doesn’t really have a public hospital.
