Or you can still call her Mtshweni-Tsipane…

Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtshweni now seems to be someone who prefers to be called Refilwe Tsipane.

During her inauguration on Monday 27 May she was introduced as Refilwe Maria Tsipane.

She is married to Lawrence Tsipane and they have been married for a number of years now.

Lawrence formed part of the government event at the Sy Mthimunye stadium inaugurating his wife – at the eMalahleni township of Ackerville.

“Halala Honourable Refilwe Tsipane. Halala!” They said of her as she arrived at the stadium.

She was inaugurated the Premier of the province and was “honoured, humbled and grateful for the confidence and trust that the ruling party has bestowed upon me by nominating and electing me as the Premier of this province”.

“I salute the members of our glorious movement, especially the volunteers who worked tirelessly during the campaign period to guarantee that the ANC emerges victorious during the recent general elections,” she said.

She is the successor of then Premier and current deputy president DD Mabuza, who led the province as both ANC chairperson and Premier for close to 10 years until February 2018 when President Cyril Ramaphosa made him the country’s deputy president.

Few weeks ago government spokesman Zibonele Mncwango released photos of the province’s 46-year-old first citizen with her husband

Others in the ANC want her to lead the party in the province as the chairwoman when a conference is held, perhaps later on this year. This paper has learnt that others want Gert Sibande chair Muzi Chirwa to be the secretary.
