Organisers say they are happy as this will be the first time the world icons perform in a township.

American vocalist group The Temptations are flying in to Mzansi to show the people of KaNyamazane what really made them world icons. Mpumalanga News reports that this has already been confirmed by Chafzar boss Ndumiso Mona.

Mona told a press briefing at the StayEasy hotel in Emnotweni on 8 August 2019 that the USA soul men will rock the Mbombela township on 1 September 2019.

Mpumalanga fans of The Temptations will be entertained with such classical songs as “Just My Imagination”, “Get Ready”, “My Girl” and “Papa Was A Rolling Stone”.

Mpumalanga News also reported that one of the group members, via a video shown at the briefing, said, “Yeah, that’s right baby, we’re on our way to Mbombela at Chafzar”.

He is band member Bernard Gibson. “We look forward to serenading fans with our songs. Our message to our followers and lovers of soul and R&B is get your ticket in time to have a good time with The Temps,” said Gibson.

Gibson disclosed they are now coming as “The Temptations Review” – since it’s known the original members of the decades-old band have since passed away.

Gates will open at 12 midday on 1 September and tickets sell from R250 to R2 500, with cooler boxes allowed, an extra R100 will be added.

Mona said his events will always feature “an international act” and will be more towards soul and R&B.

He added negotiations “with an international act for the 2020 concert are already underway”.

Alongside The Temps will be Metro FM Love Movement DJs, Sands from eSwatini, Princess Ndlovukazi, Soul Kings, Reshen Music from Mbombela, Sihlabane, Sweet Mike from Ligwalagwala FM and Kayzo.

“It pleases us that there is a strong local component in the line-up,” said Mona.

“That’s our philosophy in everything we do – from the production to the sound, stage, security, marshals and related services. The gig must also benefit our local brothers and sisters,” he said.

Event sponsors and partners include Ligwalagwa FM, Fusion Travel (for accomodation packages), Stella Artois, Hennessy, Moet & Chandon, Nederburg, Sizwe Transport and Tau Ya Phoka.
