The department wants to mitigate the economic impact that virus has had on the creative industry.
The Mpumalanga government is currently inviting artists and sportspeople to come apply for the Covid-19 Relief Fund.
Sports and culture MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali said people in the entertainment industry were hit the hardest by the pandemic and as government they ought to intervene and assist.
The Relief Fund will assist sports coaches, support staff, player, singers, crafters, sculptors, drama and cultural groups, poets and fashion designers, etc.
Through her spokeswoman Sibongile Nkosi, Ntshalintshali said applications are open until Friday 5 June 2020 – at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
She said they are working with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Creative Industries Federation of Mpumalanga (CIFMP) and the Mpumalanga Sports Confederation to come to the assistance of sportspeople, musical and cultural groups.
It will assist “in mitigating the economic impact of the virus,” Nkosi said.
