Mbombela sports & culture MMC Khanyi Mhlanga has used her 34th birthday celebration to lend a helping hand to pupils in KaNyamazane, donating 34 pairs of shoes and sanitary packages.

The school is Tenteleni Primary School and is the school where she completed her primary education…

Mhlanga believes that giving to people on the occasion of your birthday is better than expecting people to give you gifts.

“As a community activist, I have over the years volunteered and worked with several leaders including the former deputy president of the ANCYL, Desmond Moela, to give back to the less fortunate,” she said.

Mhlanga turned 34 years old on 31 October 2022.

Mhlanga said during her days at Tenteleni she used to walk a long distance to reach school.

“Today I am a public representative,” she said.

“I still have vivid memories of my days as a pupil at Tenteleni.

“I believe that it is important to understand and intervene where possible to address some of the challenges that our communities are facing especially young people,” she said.

Asked why she used sports as part of celebrating her birthday, she said: “Sports can be used as a cornerstone of social cohesion.

“It is through sports that we can teach a boy child that gender-based violence is wrong, and we can groom better young men for a better society.

“Whilst unemployment remains a challenge countrywide, we need to start small, and support young people interested in business through structured mentorship programmes to improve their chances of success,” said Mhlanga.
