They allegedly stole R1.2-million from a mining company and disappeared outright.

The Hawks are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Simphiwe Sangweni and his girlfriend Sinothando Nhlenyama to help them.

The lovers, aged 29 and 26, are on the run since 2020 and the cops have been trying to locate them since a case of theft was opened against them.

Sangweni worked as an administrator at a Barberton mine when R1.2-million disappeared from the company’s coffers.

A case of theft and fraud was laid with the cops and the matter was given to the Hawks to investigate.

A warrant of arrest for the couple was issued on 5 November 2020.

Hawks spokeswoman Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said in June 2020, Sangweni – while working for the mining company in Barberton – allegedly committed fraud by transferring the company’s money into his personal bank account and then moved it into the account of girlfriend Nhlenyama.

Already scores of mine workers, which include finance department employees at the mine, had already been arrested for the matter.

Sekgotodi said the case against these employees was temporarily put out of the court’s roll pending the arrest of the couple.
