The suspected robbers were driving a maroon Opel Corsa with fake number plates.
A Middelburg family has told the story of how they were saved from suspected would-be robbers at their home by their pitbull.
The young man told the Middelburg Observer that he was preparing to go to Pretoria after he was coming from a shop to buy his mother some items when a maroon Opel Corsa stoped at the gate of his home in one of the suburbs…
It happened last week Friday 9 December 2022.

He said he parked the car outside so he could give her mother the items he had just bought from the shop – so that from there he could dash straight to Pretoria.
He said he climbed out of the car, leaving his car keys in the ignition.
“I met my mom at the gate,” said the young man who asked not to be named.
The Opel Corsa arrived and parked just near his car. Three men got out of the car and walked towards him.
“I shouted to my mom to open the gate,” he told the local weekly.
When the remote-controlled gate opened, the pitbull leapt outside the premises and the suspects scattered in all directions.
Screaming “Foetsek! Foetsek!” at the dog, the men hurriedly climbed back into Corsa and drove away.
When the young man later posted a picture he took of the car as it drove away, a community group reported that the registration number was fake.
