The EFF is mum on the latest ANC by-elections victory in the area.
The ANC is planning to remove Mthokozisi Simelane from the post of mayor after it won all the wards during a recent by-elections in the Mkhondo municipality.
They want to put their own mayor and get rid of the independent councillor Simelane who was elected into the post after infighting caused ANC councillors to not agree on their own candidate after November 2019’s local government elections.
The 6 councillors who caused the ANC to lose the mayoral post have now been expelled from the party and have joined EFF.
They include former mayor and ANC regional deputy leader Vusi ‘Sgemegeme’ Motha.

The ANC also plans on removing ATM councillor, Mduduzi Dlamini, as the speaker of council as well as EFF councillor Siphesihle Mkhwanazi who is the chief whip.
54% of the councillors are ANC councillors in Mkhondo.
“Amongst the first responsibilities of the new councillors is to work with other responsible councillors in removing the grossly incompetent and clueless mayor,” the ANC said in a statement Thursday 15 December 2022.
“Their presence in chambers must mark an end to the rot and high levels of corruption and maladministration in that Municipality, but the of a people’s centred services delivery which includes creation of jobs,” it said, adding that they will now put qualified executives to take the municipality to another rung of improvement.
