Mpumalanga ANC spokeswoman Sasekani Manzini has the highest number of branch nominations to go to the 30-seat Mpumalanga legislature.
The league in a statement said another meeting aimed at belittling Muzi Chirwa and Audrey Maleka took place at Nehawu’s office in Ermelo recently.
The National Health, Education and Allied Workers Union has dismissed claims made by the ANCYL that it harbours individuals planning to disrupt the upcoming 7th ANC Gert Sibande regional congress.
Gert Sibande Nehawu secretary Richard Nkosi said such allegations are malicious and “those who are making them want to see us at each other’s throats with the ANC”.
“Look, we are workers and there’s no way we can disrupt an ANC congress. That is for ANC people, we’re not involved in their business, we have our own congress, ANC congress is not our space,” Nkosi said.
He said there is no way they can hold such meetings “because at our office we don’t even have a board-room, where can we have this meeting?”
“These are just malicious claims. We reject them, they are false,” he said.
But league regional spokesman Thulasizwe Thomo said Nkosi cannot know as he was only elected as the new secretary on Tuesday this week.
“We know what is taking place in that office, he doesn’t know. He only came yesterday,” Thomo said.
Chirwa is the regional chairman of the ANC in the Gert Sibande region.
Together with regional secretary Audrey Maleka, he is expected to be elected unopposed when the ANC in the region holds its elective congress on 9 and 10 June 2017 at the Aventura Resort in Badplaas.
ANC regional spokesman Sabelo Sikhakhane said security will be heightened.
“We remain disappointed of the shadows that convene in close dark corners, with an attempt to disrupt and buy delegates to vote for them through corrupt and unprincipled means, we like to state it categorically clear that any form of anarchy will be decisively dealt with as those entrusted with safety and security will be visible throughout the conference duration,” he said.
