[Update] Friends of Palestine postpones anti-Israel occupation lecture

The group says this is due to the unavailability of most of the speakers who would be at various places for Tuesday’s Human Rights Day celebrations.

The Friends of Palestine has postponed a lecture on the struggle of the people of Palestine, saying a nearer date will be announced.
“On behalf of COSATU and the Friends of Palestine we would like to apologise for this postponement as we had no option.

“The postponement was due to the Human Rights celebration which made most of our speakers not to be available for the lecture,” the group’s Tau Hlongwane said in a statement on late Monday.

“We hope and trust that our apology will be well received by all and sundry,” Hlongwane said.

The lecture was due to be held at the eMalahleni civic theatre on Tuesday morning (21 Mar) and ANC’s provincial head of international relations in the Mpumalanga province, Fish Mahlalela, was scheduled to deliver the lecture.

Fish Mahlalela to deliver anti-Israel occupation lecture

A lecture on the struggle of the people of Palestine will be delivered by the ANC’s senior comrade.

ANC provincial head of international relations Fish Mahlalela will deliver a lecture on the struggle of the Palestinian people.

The lecture will be at the eMalahleni Civic Theatre on 21 March 2017.

Palestinian territories have been occupied by Israel since the war of 1967. It has led to deadly struggles since the people of Palestine are against the occupation of their land and Israelites have continuously defied world opinions and the United Nations, saying the land is the one being mentioned in the bible.

Representative of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS)movement in the Mpumalanga province, Ntinyiko Ntini, said leaders of the ANC,Cosatu, SACP, YCL, BDS-SA and Friends of Palestine “will convene a lecture as part of pledging solidarity with the people of Palestine”.

“The lecture convenes when millions of South Africans commemorate Human Rights Day, however it is difficult to celebrate and commemorate this day whilst Palestinians are subjected to military torture and occupation from the apartheid Israeli state,” said Ntini.

“The lecture will receive messages of solidarity from Progressive Youth Alliance components, alliance partners, BDS and Friends of Palestine,” he said.

Mahlalela, who is also a member of Parliament, is the province’s ANC provincial executive member.
