The cops in eMalahleni are asking the public to donate clothes for a 2-day-old baby…

The baby was dumped this week by his mom in the bushes of a farm in the outskirts of eMalahleni.

On Wednesday, farmworkers in Rietspruit found the baby in the bushes and alerted the cops.

“They were working in the field and heard the sound and thought it was an animal offspring,” acting Kriel police commander Captain Phina Seloane told 013NEWS on Thursday morning.

“They came closer and saw it was a young one of a human being,” she said.

The workers then called the cops, who called paramedics, who confirmed the baby “very alive and 2 hours old”.

Seloane said: “He is now at the Witbank general hospital where nurses named him Lehlohonolo and is doing fine.

“We thank the workers who made the discovery and took care of him while we were coming to the scene.

“We ask members of the public to donate clothes for him. We have named him Sakhile and he was found naked,” she said.

A case of abandonment of baby has been opened by Kriel cops anyone wishing to donate clothes or with information of the baby’s mom should call Seloane on 079 891 5215.

“We could not open a case of attempted murder as there was no signs the mother attempted to kill him. He was just abandoned after being delivered,” the cop added.
