He currently faces 50 counts of rape, and a further 11 of sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery and theft.

A source in the investigations team of SA’s alleged serial rapist and possibly most dangerous man has told the media that the man could face 142 additional counts of charges.

The 142 counts will be added to the 50 counts of rape, 11 of sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery and theft that the 36-year-old Nkosinathi Phakathi already faces.

Phakathi from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni has allegedly terrorised women for 9 years until his arrest in March 2021 in Etwatwa.

He allegedly visited his victims at their homes, posing as a municipal official coming to conduct meter readings.

His victims are between the ages of 12 and 45 – and they include one 17-year-old girl who was raped by a man who told her was working for the Ekurhuleni municipality.

Police say more than 100 victims have already been interviewed as investigations continue in the case.

Phakathi said he has three kids and works by selling second-hand cars and wanted the court to release him on bail.

His aunt who lives in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga told journalists that Phakathi is a very “quiet person”.

“As a family, we do not believe these charges. We are shocked. He is not a naughty child and does not talk too much,” she said.
