SELLO MATSHOGA

The ANC Nkangala Region is deeply saddened by the news of the passing on of Cde Bongi Maria Ntuli- an ANC struggle veteran. She succumbed to congestive heart failure on Saturday, 22 October 2016, at the age of 76 years.

MaNtuli, as she was fondly known, was a former member of the ANC Women`s League National Executive Committee (NEC), and Former Deputy Chairwoman of ANC Women’s League Western Region.

ManNtuli participated in the Convention for a Democratic South Africa (Codesa) and following the 1994 election, ManNtuli became a Member of Parliament, and she served in various committees, Joint Monitoring Committee on Improvement of Quality of Life and Status of Women, Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Land Affairs, Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry and Government, Public Administration and Defence.

In 2009, she was appointed as one of two Deputy Ministers of Trade and Industry. In 2010, she was deployed to the Department of Social Development as Deputy Minister, where she served until 2014.

We remember her as a hardworking and strong minded person. She had a strong personality and was diligent in the performance of all her responsibilities. She was always committed to any deployment that she was given, and dedicated to the detail of her work.

At this moment of grief and pain within the ranks of the ANC, the alliance and the mass democratic movement in general, we would like to appeal to all members of these formations to draw strength and courage from the life of MaNtuli. We further appeal to all those formations of our movement to draw strength and learn from her dedication, faithfulness, selflessness and loyalty to the ANC.

To her family and friends, the ANC expresses a deep message of condolence. We know for a fact that during this moment no amount of words will satisfy you, but also you must draw solace from the fact that MaNtuli’s life has touched many hearts in our nation.

Once more to her daughter, and her two sons, and members of the family, the ANC expresses a deep word of gratitude to you all for having contributed the entire life of your mother and daughter to the struggle for the liberation of the oppressed people of South Africa.

To you MaNtuli, the ANC says “thank you” for your fearlessness, loyalty and discipline to the cause of our struggle, and for having been committed to execute your responsibility up until the last moment. We promise you, all of us as your comrades as part of your collective will pick up your spear and forge ahead from where you left off. We dip our revolutionary banners and bow our heads in salute to you.

Lala kahle qhawe lamaqhawe!

May your soul rest in peace

Her revolutionary zeal and spirit live forever.
