The secretary of the ANCYL in Mpumalanga has come under fire for a statement he made attacking the chief whip of the party in parliament.

He comes under fire together with the entire provincial executive committee of the youth league in the province under the leadership of Tim Mashele.

The provincial leadership addressed journalists at the party’s provincial headquarters in Mbombela on Tuesday afternoon where its secretary Pholoso Mbatsanehe attacked and labeled Jackson Mthembu a drunkard.

But members of the public on Facebook, some of whom are members of the ANC, didn’t like the way in which it was phrased and lambasted them for it.

“But this is not a correct manner to insult a senior comrade like this, aowa” – Calvin Bright reacted to the statement.

“Two wrongs have never been correct” – said Desmond Mabeka Lamula.

“Sponsored view from young people” – said Nkosinathi Penuell Masina.

“The ANCYL in Mpumalanga can’t be preaching such disrespectful remarks against an NEC member, all that should have been said was Mr Mthembu you are out of order, no need to insult him,” said Moss Shobede.

“Secretary your political soul has reached its political demise,” – Sipho Shilli said.

“I cry for my beloved ANCYL that was hijacked by these clueless lads. They have nothing to offer except dividing the ANC, indeed we are not led,” – said Vayie Kunene.

“The statement lacks political contents. It’s only full of insults,” – said Reginald Zweli Hlatshwayo.

“This statement if it were based on principles and culture, it would be engaging to young minds,” – Philip Mulungo said.

A eMalahleni Num branch chairman Bizzah Motubatse accused Mbatsane and members of the league provincial youth structure of releasing statements “in order to please the farm”, a reference to chairman David Mabuza.

Mabuza, who is believed to be a leader of an ANC lobby group called Premier League that wants him as deputy president and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as President in next year’s national elective congress, lives in a farm in Barberton.

Motubatse said: “The fact that comrade Jackson identified weaknesses and short-comings in the ANC doesn’t mean he must be vilified and satanised by those who want to please the farm.

“The youth league is hellbent in compromising the principles and values of the ANC so that the youth league members and leaders can be seen as super revolutionaries,” he said.
